Navigating Your Career

Modern careers don’t tend to follow a linear path. Your priorities, interests and wider circumstances can change. Coaching is a great opportunity to explore your options and plan your next move.

Several clients share their experiences:

One of the best things about coaching in a professional setting is the fact that you can have an open and frank discussion about where you want to go in life career-wise and how well your current work situation allows those goals to be attained. It’s the kind of discussion you’d like to have with your boss or senior colleagues but could never have. Being listened to and taken seriously is immensely valuable in itself but to then have a chance to explore systematically steps to get there, is really a key strength of the coaching sessions. I got ideas of how to tackle specific issues, the sessions also validated my thought process and thereby gave me extra confidence to try/ do things, but also helped provide specific tools to seek to achieve objectives, and work out how to do it - ie through goal setting and reality checks. I really enjoyed it and it helped me work out what really matters to me in a job/career.

Mid- Career Planning

Lara asked probing questions that challenged my preconceptions about academic career goals and helped me think more broadly and flexibly about the principles that guide my career. This fresh approach was eye opening and has completely changed my approach to my career, helping me see through the fog of unnecessary stress created by misconceptions, and freeing space and time for clearer thinking. I cannot recommend Lara highly enough.

I wanted a clear understanding of the different options I had in front of me after finishing my PhD. Particularly, I want to start my own business so I was moving back and forth thinking on a couple of ideas and wasn’t sure how to start making them tangible, especially the one about opening my own consultancy company. I was not sure if the skills I have were enough. I was really stuck and the coaching sessions help me to uncover the idea I was more keen to realize. Then we looked at my strengths and the little steps I can take towards that big goal. Also I understood it can be a medium-long term plan. That I don’t have to do everything right now. To have the opportunity to talk out loud about it with someone that was carefully listening and was able to guide me through kind of a ‘own-reflection / self-discovery” process was so useful.
